As part of the continuing process of FAO reform and decentralization, authority for approval of leave and travel has been delegated to the line managers in the Decentralized Offices. For a quick overview of the levels of delegated authority regarding leave and travel, refer to delegated authority leave and travel guidelines and matrix.
Note: At the time of preparing their travel/leave plans, FAORs are encouraged to start preliminary identification of potential nominees for the function of FAO Representative ad interim (FAOR a.i.) during absence of the FAOR. (Also refer to guidelines for nomination of FAORs a.i.).

Leave
The management of all types of leave is done through the Global Resource Management System (GRMS) with automated recording and reporting in Oracle. For full information about management of leave, refer to the FAO Handbook Human Resources Leave Overview section.
At the FAOR country offices, this is complemented by the Monthly Attendance Reports prepared by the FAOR for all professional staff in the respective locations.
For leave of A-FAOR and GS staff, the authority for approval of leave is delegated to the FAOR who should keep the RO, and SSC Hub informed. This includes annual leave, home leave, rest and recuperation, family emergency, uncertified sick leave, special leave and advance leave up to 10 days.
For leave of the FAOR, the authority for approval of leave of the FAORs is delegated to the SRC, who should keep the RR, OSD and the SSC Hub informed. This includes annual leave, home leave, rest and recuperation, family emergency, uncertified sick leave, special leave and advance leave up to 10 days. For FAORs in countries not covered by a SRO, the ADG/RR approves annual leave of the FAORs, keeping OSD and the SSC Hub informed.
