Local
Organized within the country, by FAO or by public (government, UN) or private sector (commercial activity).
(FAO Representation training funds permitting, training in the English language is recommended. Almost all correspondence received in the office is in English. Now, with the arrival of the WAN, staff have access to the Intranet, which is almost entirely in English. The cost in terms of both money and time of translating all this material is prohibitive. As most staff generally are keen to learn English, it would prove to be very useful; offices that have undertaken such as scheme have found it a highly motivating exercise, especially for those cadres that usually receive no training at all.)
Regional
Under the reform process, with increasing decentralization, the tendency is to transfer training initiatives from HQ to the regional level, to reduce travel cost/time and to contribute to development of decentralized/regional training capacity.
International (Corporate)
Within FAO, this includes Corporate staff development initiatives developed by CSPL as part of the staff development and learning opportunities.
Outside FAO, this includes the External Training Programme (ETP), the UNCT Training programme in Turin among others.
