Mr Alinovi, a national of Italy, holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture and Natural Resources Economics and a Master of Science Degree in Tropical and Sub-tropical Agriculture from the University of Florence, Italy. His career started in 1983 at Chemistry and Technology Int. SPA, Rome, Italy, first as Administrative Assistant in the Africa Department and then, from 1985 to 1987, as Area Manager Assistant for the Agricultural Department North Africa. From 1988 to 1991, he worked as Technical Officer (Agronomist) for the INTERBRYANT S.A., Tunisia. From 1991 to 1993, he undertook some consultancy assignments in Italy, Somalia and Senegal. From 1993 to 1994, he joined the Italian Cooperation (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) as Agriculture and Natural Resources Expert for the Tigray Multisectorial Rehabilitation Programme in Ethiopia. From 1994 to 1996, he worked as Remote Sensing and GIS Business Development Manager and Senior Officer and Area Manager for Africa, Teleos International and Nuovo Telespazio (Joint Venture), Rome, Italy. In 1996, again with the Italian Cooperation (Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) as Monitoring and Evaluation Expert (Head of the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Unit), he worked on the Arsi Bale Rural and Development Project in Ethiopia. He then joined FAO in 1998 as Chief Technical Adviser, Africover Eastern Africa Project, Nairobi, Kenya. From 2002 to 2010, he was Project Coordinator, Improving Early Warning and Food Security Information in Countries Subject to Complex Emergencies, ESAF, Rome. In 2010, he was promoted to Senior Emergency and Rehabilitation Coordinator and also served as Officer-in-Charge of the FAO Somalia Programme, Nairobi, Kenya. In 2013, Mr Alinovi was awarded the B.R. Sen Award for his innovative approach in implementing Cash-For-Work in humanitarian emergencies. Mr Alinovi succeeds Mr Dan Rugabira as FAO Representative in Kenya.
