Projects in Ethiopia

The projects that have recently been undertaken by the FAO in Ethiopia include:

• Small holder farmers commercialization and value chain in agriculture
• Developing a disaster preparedness and emergency response plan for the agriculture sector
• Linkage  of agriculture and nutrition, smallholder Asset Building and scaling-up of best agricultural practices
• Highland and lowland fruit production
• Establishment of Farmers Field Schools and Farmers Business schools
• Climate change adaptation and pastoral development
• Watershed management and small-scale irrigation
• Agriculture information system

TeleFood projects currently being developed include

• Developing small holder Sheep production
• Developing Commercial Small scale beekeeping improvement

Other priority areas currently being developed for Ethiopia include,

• A Joint Program for Capacity Building of the 4 developing Regional States
• Flood mitigation and water harvesting
• Emergency contingency plans

Regional Projects

• Capacity Building to promote formal marketing and trade of livestock and livestock products from the Horn of Africa
• Great Green Wall for the Sahara and the Sahel Initiative
• Sub Regional initiative in support of vulnerable pastoralists and agro-pastoralists in the Horn of Africa
