TCP/ARM/3103 (D) Establishment of a virtual extension and research information and communication network

Duration: April 2008 to September 2009
Budget: US$254,000 

The development objective of the project is to improve, through strengthened research and development extension linkages, the agricultural advisory services provided to resource poor farmers, in support of rural livelihoods and development.

The immediate objective is to develop the necessary institutional structures and processes, and build capacities to improve communication and exchange of information between selected agricultural research organizations and extension service providers in Armenia.

TCP/ARM/3102 (E) Emergency Assistance for the Control of African Swine Fever (ASF)

Duration: 2008 to July 2009
Budget: US$ 500,000

The development goal of the project is to enhance the monitoring and disease control surveillance system for ASF in Armenia which should lead to stop the spread of the disease in non-affected areas of the country or to neighboring country.

TCP/ARM/3203 (D) – Afforestation and Reforestation

Duration: 2009 to 2010
Budget: US$ 432,000

The project focuses on the development of human resources in the fields of seed collection, nurseries, plantations and natural regeneration. In close collaboration with the national Forest Program, it intends to implement capacity building measures as well as small pilot projects. The assistance is expected to contribute to the development of forests in Armenia through afforestation and reforestation and thus improve economic prosperity in rural areas and to lead to improved contribution of forest land use to sustainable development of natural resources, particularly forest ecosystem.

FAO-Government Cooperative Programmes (GCP) in Armenia:

GCP/ARM/001/ITA – Phase 1 - Assistance to Brucellosis Control in Armenia

Duration: May 2007 to June 2011
Budget: US$1,070,000

The Project objectives are to strengthen self-support in local communities through improved livestock production and reduction of brucellosis infection in livestock and human, reduce the drain on family assets spent for medical treatment, prevent income losses from brucellosis in livestock and strengthen Government’s capacity to respond to community health concerns, to build technical and managerial capacity in order to fully understand the extent and distribution of brucellosis disease in animals and humans in the country and to test internationally recognizes control methods.

GCP/ARM/ 003/GRE - Support for Pesticide Quality Control and Residue Monitoring in Armenia

Duration: February 2009 to Feburary 2012
Budget: US$ 2,000,000

The development objective of the project is to contribute to sustainable development of the agricultural sector through less hazardous agricultural inputs leading to improved agricultural practices, safer food and a cleaner environment as well as to the reduction of risks associated with the use of pesticides. Its medium-term objective is to enable the country to control the quality of pesticide products on the market in line with international standards and to carry out pesticide residue surveillance monitoring programmes in order to improve the quality of agricultural products.

GCP/ARM/004/GRE - Support for Abattoir Ddevelopment in Armenia

Duration: February 2009 to February 2012

Budget: US$ 1,622,000

The development objective of the project is to demonstrate and produce safe hygienic meat production in selected Marzes (regions) in Armenia. Its medium-term objective is to enable the livestock development institutions (both private and public) to effectively improve the safety and quality of meat and meat products.
