Mr Guindo, a national of Canada, holds a B.Sc. in Agricultural Economics, a M.Sc. in Agricultural Policies and a Master of Economics from the Université Laval, Québec, Canada. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the University of Guelph, Canada. Mr Guindo started his career in 1986 in Haiti as Research and Training Officer and Representative of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre (CIMMYT). He first worked for FAO in 1992 as Project Coordinator, Special Relief Operations Service, TCOR, Haiti. From 1993 to 1995, he worked as Lecturer and Research Associate in Natural Resources and Environmental Economics at McGill University, Montreal, Canada. In 1995, he worked as Project Coordinator, Food Security and Agricultural Project Analysis Service, ESAF, Burkina Faso and, in 1996, as International Consultant, Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS), Burundi. From 1997 to 1998, he served as Project Coordinator, Food Security and Agricultural Project Analysis Service, ESAF, Chad. From 1998 to 2000, he worked as an International Consultant, Special Programme for Food Security (SPFS), in Rome and in Haiti. During this period he was an International Consultant with the Agence Nigérienne de Promotion de l’Irrigation Privée (ANPIP) financed by the World Bank, Niger, in 1999. In 2000, he also worked as an International Consultant in Iraq for TCOR. From 2000 to 2001, he was Mission Leader, TCII leading the FAO-Libya SPFS formulation mission to Sudan, Chad, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso. From 2001 to 2003, he worked at Headquarters as Evaluation Officer, TCES, and from 2003 to 2007, as Food Security Officer, TCOS. In 2007, he was promoted Senior Food Security Officer, TCOS. In March 2008, he was appointed FAO Representative in Cameroon. Mr Guindo succeeds Mr T. Tekie as FAO Representative in Afghanistan.
