Mr Pedersen, a national of Denmark, holds an M.Sc. in Political Science from the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Mr Pedersen joined the Danish Government Service in 1977. From 1977 to 1981 he served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Head of Section dealing with international agricultural and development issues in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 1981 he was appointed First Secretary of the Danish Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels, Belgium. In 1984 he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Head of Section dealing with EU internal policies. From 1989 to 1993 he served as Counsellor, Deputy Permanent Representative at the Danish Permanent Mission to the United Nations in Geneva. In 1993, he became Deputy Head of Department, Department for United Nations Development Assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Copenhagen. In 1998 he was appointed Minister Counsellor, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Agencies in Rome and was promoted in 2002 to the position of Minister, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Agencies in Rome.
