Mr. Deodoro ROCA
Mr Roca, a national of Argentina, holds a B.A. in History from the National University of Cordoba (Argentina), with a major in Economic History. In 1971 he worked as Specialist in Agricultural Prices and Markets of Tribuna Agropecuaria (Cordoba, Argentina) and in 1973 was appointed Chef de Cabinet of the Minister of Economics and Finance of the Province of Cordoba. In 1974 he transferred to the private sector, where he held managerial posts in a public works and engineering group, Argentina. Between 1977 and 1980 he was Chief Correspondent of the Inter Press Service (IPS) international news agency, United Nations, Geneva and New York, specializing in economic and development issues. In 1980 he worked as Regional Information Officer for Latin America and the Caribbean, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Mexico. In 1981 he returned to the IPS agency, where he was successively Editor in Chief at its Headquarters in Rome and International Economics Editor and Analyst and was also Member of the Board of Directors. From 1988 to 1990 he worked as Deputy Director and Executive Officer of the Technological Information Pilot System (TIPS Project) of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP/OPS), Rome. Mr Roca joined FAO in February 1990 as Information and Documentation Officer, Forestry Department, Tropical Forests Action Programme (TFAP). Between 1994 and 2004 he served in the Office of the Director-General as Attaché de Cabinet and then as Senior Attaché de Cabinet, before his appointment in 2004 as Chief of the Policy Coordinating Service in the Policy Assistance Division of the Technical Cooperation Department.
