Mr. Gaoju HAN
Mr Han, a national of China, holds a B.Sc. in Animal Sciences and a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from the Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, China. Mr Han started his career in 1982 as Officer of the Animal Resources Management and Production Division, Bureau of Animal Husbandry and Health (BAHH), at the Ministry of Agriculture, China. In 1986, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Policy and Information Division in the same Bureau. From 1988 to 1990, he worked as Project Supervisor for the establishment of a national pig breeding centre and a dairy cattle breeding centre. In 1991, he took up the position of Deputy Chief of the Science and Technology Division. A year later, he was appointed Chief of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Division and subsequently, from 1993 to 1999, he served as Vice-Director of the Bureau of Animal Husbandry and Health. In 1999, Mr Han was appointed Director-General of the China-EU Centre for Agriculture Technology and, in 2003, as Director-General of the Foreign Economic Cooperation Centre. Mr Han is also a visiting Professor in several agricultural universities and Vice-Chairman of the China National Management Committee on Animal Genetic Resources. Mr Han succeeds Mr Mrema as Subregional Coordinator for Southern Africa.
