Mr. Benoit HOREMANS
Mr Horemans, a national of Belgium, holds an M.Sc. in Administration and Management from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. He began his career in 1980 as a Belgian Cooperation Volunteer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Cape Verde. Mr Horemans joined FAO in 1983 as Associate Expert/Economist in Cape Verde. In 1986 he was appointed Fishery Planning Analyst at Headquarters in Rome. From 1989 to 1992, he served as Economist for a regional project for inland fisheries planning, development and management in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa, based in Bujumbura, Burundi. From 1992 to 1996, he worked as Socio-Economist and Fishery Planning Officer, then as Team Leader of the Regional Programme for Integrated Artisanal Fisheries Development in West Africa in Cotonou, Benin. In 1999, he was appointed Team Leader of the Regional Support Unit of the Sustainable Fisheries Livelihoods Programme in West Africa, a post he held until 2003, when he was nominated Coordinator of the Programme at Headquarters.
