Mr Yokoyama, a national of Japan, holds a B.A. in Economics from the Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo. Mr Yokoyama started his career in 1975 with the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. Subsequently, in 1982 he served as Deputy Director of the Administration Division of the Food and Marketing Bureau. From 1983 to 1986 he was Senior Technical Officer in the International Cooperation Division, International Affairs Department, Economic Affairs Bureau. In 1986, he joined the Chicago Centre of JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) where he served until 1989 when he became Deputy Director of the Administration Division, Food Agency. In 1990, he was Deputy Director of the Administration Division Livestock Industry Bureau. From May 1992 to October 1995, Mr Yokoyama was Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in the United States of America before being appointed Director of the Commercial Feed Division, Livestock Industry Bureau. In July 1997, he became Director of the Sericulture and Raw Silk Industry Division in the Agricultural Production Bureau. In 1999, he joined the Minister's Secretariat as Director of the Coordination Division, Cooperatives Inspection Department, and then became Director of the Accounting Division in 2000, Counsellor in the General Food Policy Bureau in 2001 and Director of the Regional Liaison Division in 2002. In October 2003, he took up an assignment as Director-General of the Kinki Chugoku Regional Forest Office before becoming Vice-President of the Farmers' Pension Fund in July 2004. Since May 2006, Mr Yokoyama has been the International Counsel at the Japan Livestock Technology Association. Mr Yokoyama succeeds Mr Yasuo Endo as Director of the Liaison Office in Japan.
